Co mpany Info: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Radiographer experienced in CT to join this modern, busy department. The successful candidate will have strong leadership skills and preferably some management experience as team leadership is a major facet of this post. The postholder will ensure a high quality service is provided in this CT scanning department meeting the needs of referrers and maintaining high standards of patient care. This would be a fantastic opportunity for an experienced radiographer hoping to take their career to the next level and become involved in management or indeed an already experienced manager seeking a new challenge.

 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Give the very highest standard of care to the cohort of patients for which you have been made responsible and to be able to carry out all tasks involved in ensuring that any patient in your care is successfully examined and well cared for.

     

  • Act as the patient’s advocate, ensuring that their needs and dignity are respected and that other healthcare staff exercise equal respect for patients’ rights whether a procedure is being carried out in the department or any remote location

     

  • To act a superior independent practitioner with clinical skills that have progressed beyond the standard of a band 5 radiographer, showing the ability to carry out a full range of diagnostic examinations to a very high standard.

     

  • Be able to work in all areas of the Imaging Department, with an increased emphasis on being competent in CT Scanning.

     

  • Liaise with referral sources where clarification is required for justification of examinations.

     

·         Act as a point of advice for imaging referrers, such as Doctors, Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.

 

  • Acquire diagnostic images and physically position the full range of patient presentations accurately for examinations taking into account patient limitations and adapting standard techniques where necessary.

     

  • Be skilled with the range of technical equipment and their applications used within the department.

     

  • Assess specific communication needs of individual patients.

     

  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients prior to, during and after an examination.

     

  • To communicate effectively and empathetically with relatives of patients.

     

  • Review images and ensure that supplementary imaging procedures/views are considered prior to patient departure from the Department.

     

  • Ensure that urgent findings are communicated (in accordance with departmental protocols) and patients are directed accordingly.

     

 

  • To ensure all appropriate infection control measures are utilised where necessary. Paying particular attention to personal protection as well as the management of equipment.

     

  • Participate in the safe transfer of patients and equipment within the Department and Hospital respectively, using manual handling guidelines and risk assessment.

     

  • Assess the clinical justification of Radiography referrals in line with both national regulations Ionising Radiation (Medical Equipment) Regulations 2000 (IRMER 2000), and local protocols.

     

  • Act as an operator under IRMER (2000) - An ‘operator’ is anyone who carries out the ‘practical aspect’ of Radiography. The range of functions covered by this term is extensive and includes the supporting functions prior to the exposure-taking place e.g. the calibration of equipment that emits ionising radiation, as well as of performing the exposure itself.

     

  • Take responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of radiation protection are observed for patients, self and others.

     

  • Offer definitive advice to staff with information about protocols, policies and working practices.

     

  • Carry out all aspects of the professional role to a superior standard and act as a reference for Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and students.

     

  • Undertake personal and professional development through annual appraisal.

     

  • Be responsible for ensuring own continuous personal development.

     

  • Attend mandatory training and actively participate in the technical and patient focused aspects of the department’s Clinical Audit programme.

     

  • Have an enhanced role in the Induction programme, and training for new staff and students.

     

  • Carry out formal weekly assessments for student radiographers and trainee practitioners, carrying out the assessment to the agreed standard and submitting correct documentation.

     

  • Contribute effectively to the delivery of an efficient and responsive Radiology Service and make recommendations on service improvement.

     

  • Provide guidance to external users regarding the priority and deployment of radiographic resources, e.g., theatre usage.

     

 

 

Requirements:

 

 

  • B.Sc. in Radiography or equivalent.

     

  • HPC Registration.

     

  • Experience in CT Scanning and preferably some management experience.

     

  • Ideally have a minimum of 5 years post qualification experience.
